I really enjoyed this game! It's very fun, entertaining and intriquing. The gameplay is fun, the design is interesting and unified, and a lot of aspects of the game remind me of the Hotline Miami games, which is DEFINITELY never a bad thing since I love those games.
I'd love to see maybe some healing, some more settings for HUD, graphics and a way to change mouse and keyboard controls. I'm not a fan of the overly-smoothed mouse movement either. Sorry if I come across rude, just want to give some criticism because I think this game can go very far.
Thank you for the experience, and I highly recommend people play this game!
Thank you for playing! I was heavily inspired by the Hotline Miami games so you're right on the money there, hehe.
Critique is always welcome by the way, it isn't rude at all, I don't know what I would do without it. I'm very glad you enjoyed the game, thank you for leaving feedback!
This was really enjoyable, fast paced and shooting felt satisfyingly great. I think this was due to the fast fire rate and enemies quickly giving feedback on being hit.
If I could have one thing added other than more content, it would be a toggle for run. I always want to be running!
I managed to get fairly competent at shooting the doors from a distance then peeking diagonal into a room while shooting to avoid taking much damage. I think due to the current reaction time of the enemies and damage dealt with no health pickups, charging into a room isn't viable.
I was excited to read at the end that you're intending to develop this further. I hope that is still the case!
Thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah I will definitely continue Downlink, I just needed a little break from it to break apart the monotony(which is ultimately how slavjank arena was born). It is taking extra time because when I made it I was still somewhat of a noob at Unity, so to fix it up and make it into what I believe it should be, I gotta rewrite what is already there first before I add any new content to it.
Break was great outside of me having a pretty high fever for the last couple of days! How was yours?
As for updates, sadly school is gonna take up a lot of Q1 but you can expect a post jam update for SlavJank(settings menu, controller support, fixes for unintentional jank, more sounds and possibly a health pack to keep you going if you survive for long enough) and minor progress on Downlink.
I've used what I learned while making SlavJank to make a lot of internal improvements to Downlink and I think I am finally at the point where I can start doing levels for it and for such an occasion I thought of remaking the Matrix lobby shootout or maybe a layout of the first level of a boomer shooter done in the office setting.
Also you can always add me on discord if you'd like! I'm not very active in E1M1 server or really most servers I am in because I'm not good with crowds, love the people there but can't help but to feel a little intimidated sometimes y' know.
Thank you for playing! I wanted to leave the same tip here that I left on your video just in case!
The game is very punishing if you aren't moving a lot, so for the best results be very aggressive, breach the doors, shoot while sprinting and avoid enemy fire.
nice little shooter. There were some bugs, such as doors penetrating the walls when fully opened or enemies passing through the desks, but the game runs smoothly and the shooting is nice. Also, I'd suggest putting a cap on how many cans can be spawned from the vending machine on the third level, as someone really bored could do this and render the game a PowerPoint presentation :). Overall, really interesting indie game, I'll keep an eye on this project. (Also I'd suggest adding the option to lower the music and SFX, as i needed to lower it from the windows mixer)
Thank you for the feedback and I'm glad you liked it! I will most definitely look into adding a proper options screen in the pause menu both for sound and graphics in a future update, as well as fixing the smaller bugs like the ones you mentioned, I think I have an idea of what might be causing those two in particular.
Also, believe it or not, I intentionally left the vending machines uncapped in hopes of someone doing exactly what you did, heheh.

Not bad but the controller is too stiff and props and doors are really annoying. You have to adjust it or fix it.

Here is some gameplay!
For the algorithm!!!
Some gameplay when I'm tired:

All the best with your future games.

Sounds good, I hope you can take your time and not get burned out.
The game reminded me (at least the levels) of Office Point Rescue, but I prefer the faster pace of Downlink myself.
Hope you had a good break over the holidays :)
Any gamedev in the works for Q1 2022? Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!

Too fun... Starts at 42 seconds. First gameplay.
